Application Dropdown Notes
The Application field can ask for many different types of information and can use terminology that may not be self-explanatory. The tables below explain the common types of information requested and where to find that info as well as definitions for more obscure terms.
Info
Description
Short IDs (e.g. GU6)
GM vehicles put these IDs most commonly on a sticker in the glovebox, but they could also be in the trunk under the spare tire cover or in the passenger door jam. Other Makes may refer to small IDs like this as well. The codes for other vehicles are generally in the trunk area.
Long IDs (e.g. 15776279)
Most often this number can be found on the part. *If no parts are being found when searching for an ID like this - it may indicate that we have not checked the ID of our part instead of us not having the part. In this case, search for all fields except for Application. It is likely that one of the new results will fit.
VIN Number Digit
The VIN number can be found in multiple places - usually on a sticker in the drivers door jam, the glovebox, or under the hood.
Gear Ratio (e.g. 3.55)
GM ratios can be determined by looking at the code from the options sticker (found in the glovebox, under the spare tire cover or in the passenger door jam). Ford ratios can be looked up based on the "Axle" code from the sticker in the driver's door jam (See last section of help to lookup the ratio from that code). For other vehicles and generally, the gear ratio can be calculated by dividing the number of teeth on the larger gear in the axle/carrier assembly with the amount of teeth on the smaller gear connected to the larger one.
Market (US, Canada, etc)
This refers to which country the vehicle was sold in. Generally US market is the correct choice. This is not to be confused with the country of manufacture.
Country Manufactured
This can be found on the sticker in the driver's door jam.
Emissions Standard
Some vehicles are made to federal emissions standards, others to California's. Generally in Oregon, Federal is the correct choice.
Vehicle Edition (DX, LS, XLT, Eddie Bauer, etc)
This can be found either on the trunk/tailgate/liftgate or the front fender/door area.
Wheelbase (WB)
This can be found either on a sticker in the driver's door jam (Ford), on a sticker under the hood (some Chrysler/Dodge), or on a sticker in the glovebox (some GM).
Measurements are not Standard
Some applications require measurements in inches (radiators, rotors, wheels, etc), others in millimeters (stabilizer bars, crossmembers, stub axles, etc).
Wheels
Wheels are measured by the height of the rim and the spacing between the center of the topmost and bottommost bolt holes. An example is 15x5-1/2. This would mean a wheel that has a diameter (height) of 15 inches and the distance between the center of the top and bottom bolt holes is 5.5 inches. In some cases, wheel measurement can also look like 15x5x5-1/2 - where the new middle 5 would represent the amount of bolt holes that exist (in this example, 5 holes).
Manufacture Dates (e.g. from 10/02 or thru 11/03)
The date (Month and Year) of manufacture can be found on the sticker in the drivers door jam. In some cases for Fords, the Application may request a day (instead of just the month and year). For the most part, this can be guessed by the date requested. As an example, if the manufacture date on the vehicle says 10/13, and the Application field is asking from 10/3/13 or thru 10/3/13, then we can safely guess it would be thru because more days of the month apply to the manufacture date in this instance. If it cannot be guessed, the only option to call the dealership and run the vin with them to see if the actual day of manufacture can be determined.
with/without ABS (Anti-Lock Brakes)
Vehicles can have two or four wheel ABS. Front wheel ABS can be determined by looking between the front wheel and the fender liner on either side. There will be an electrical wire going from the fender liner to the spindle/caliper on the wheel. Don't confuse this with the black rubber hose that transfers brake fluid. Rear wheel ABS can either be the same as the front wheel or have a single electrical wire going to the top middle of the rear axle/carrier.TODO: IMAGE SHOWING ABS
Term
Definition
DOHC, OHV, SOHC
Dual Over-Head Cam, Over-Head Valve and Single Over-Head Cam. OHV is the classic engine design with the camshaft at the base of the engine. The camshaft moves pushrods that move lifters at the top of the engine. IN DOHC/SOHC the camshaft is at the top of the engine, which eliminates the need for pushrods and lifters. D is Dual and S is Single. Generally, it is marked on the top of the motor when it is a DOHC or SOHC engine. Otherwise, you can assume OHV
Chassis Cab
A Chassis Cab is a pickup sold without a bed. This allows for aftermarket boxes to be installed. These vehicles are generally used for utility or work vehicles.
Cutaway
A cutaway van is a van manufactured with only the front driver and passenger area covered. It is cut away behind the seats so that an aftermarket shell can be installed. These are typically seen in ambulances, moving or utility vans.
DRW, SRW
Dual Rear Wheels or Single Rear Wheel
LHD, RHD
Left-Hand Drive or Right-Hand Drive
Interchangable vs. Non-Interchangable Results
Interchangable parts can fit different vehicles. For example, an engine from a 1995 Chevrolet 1500 Pickup fits several GM vehicles and can be swapped without issues between those vehicles. In this case, searching for an engine for any of those other vehicles would show the engine from the 1995 Chevrolet we have in stock because it can fit. The majority of our parts are interchangable.
Additional information about the "exactness" of interchangable fitment is in the next section.
Non-Interchangable parts only fit the original vehicle and options as manufactured. For example, a front seat from a 1997 Nissan Pathfinder will only fit a 97 Pathfinder. Other restrictions, such as engine or transmission type, trim type, etc may also apply to these parts. Looking at the 'Part Notes' field will help address these restrictions.
Non-Interchangable parts do not utilize the Application field in searches, even if this is selected.
Interchangable but "Nearly-Exact"?
Some interchangable parts fit, but need minor adjustment or have slight differences between them. These differences are denoted by an alpha character (A-H, J, K, M, N, P-Q, S-Z) as the last or second to last character in the 'Part Number' field. If a part ends with an L or R, that denotes the side of the vehicle it applies to - NOT to the near-exact alpha character. Parts that have an L or R will have the near-exact alpha character before the side designation.
Parts that have a near-exact fit will have a section starting with NEARLY EXACT FIT NOTES which will describe the fitment differences between the near-exact alpha characters.
When looking at a near-exact part, it is important to check the alpha character for the part above the fitment notes, then check in the notes to determine what changes might need to be made to ensure fitment with the desired vehicle.
Part Options Notes
The 'Part Options' field has several standard codes. They are defined below.
Code(s)
Definition
2DR, 3DR, 4DR, PU, SUV, VAN
The body/door style of the vehicle. 3DR is usually a hatchback, PU is a pickup.
The exterior or interior color. NOTE: Some interiors have two or three colors. In this case, the color indicated may not match the actual color of the part.
MW, PW
Manual or Power Windows
KEYL, ML, PL
Keyless, Manual or Power Locks
CLR, PRV, TINT
Clear, Privacy Tinted or lightly Tinted Windows. NOTE: If a vehicle has clear front windows and privacy rear windows, they are all marked as CLR. Look at the fitment options below the parts list to determine actual tint.
MM, PM, PHM, RM
Manual, Power, Power Heated or Remote side-view mirrors. Remote mirrors are power mirrors where the control is on the other side of the door from the mirror and is connected to the mirror with a cable. Heated mirrors will usually have a heat symbol on the mirror itself.
x.xL (e.g. 5.7L)
Engine Liters
3SP, 4SP, 5SP, 6SP, A, AOD
Manual or Automatic Transmission, indicating the amount of gears for manual and whether or not it's overdrive if it's an automatic.
4X4, AWD, FWD, RWD
Four, All, Front or Rear Wheel Drive
xx/xx (e.g. 02/13)
Date of Vehicle Manufacture. The first two digits are the month, the second two digits are the year.
CONV, NORM, SUN, TTOP, VYL
Convertible, Normal, Sun, T-Top, or Vinyl Roof
2BL, 4BL, EFI, MFI
2/4 Barrel Carburetor or Electronic/Multi-Port Fuel Injection
AC

CLO, LEA, VYL
Cloth, Leather or Vinyl Seats
40/20/40, 50/50,60/40, BUC, BEN, CAP
The style of seat. These are set seperately for front and rear seats. The numeric ones indicate a split bench seat. The rest are Bucket, Bench and Captain. Captain seats have the headrest built into the seat as one piece.
CD, D, TCD, TD
The steering column options. The codes are combinations of Cruise, Direction and Tilt. Every steering column will have direction (the ability to turn left and right), not all will have tilt or cruise control.
W/KEY, NOKEY
Whether the vehicle has an ignition key or not. This may be important to note if looking for an ignition switch with a key or external locks with a key.
COL, DASH, FLR
Column, Dash or Floor Shifter location
ABS
Has Anti-Lock Brakes (either two or four wheel)
BAD CHROME, BAD PNT, BAD TINT, CRACKS, DIRTY, FOGGY, SCRATCHES
Different conditions that the part may have (these are seperate from the ARA damage codes discussed below)
CK ID, CK RATIO
The part in question differs based upon an id number or the ratio, but these have not been checked yet to determine which exact version we have in stock. The id or ratio of the part will need to be checked before exact fitment can be determined.
INSPECT
The part in question could be damaged. It should be inspected before being purchased.
VERIFY
The part in question may differ from the Application noted. For example, a fuel tank may be listed as 18 gallons, but have VERIFY in the notes. This indicates that the tank could be 18 gallons, but it could also be a different amount. The part will need to be checked before exact fitment can be determined.
ARA Damage Codes
A majority of external parts (e.g. fenders, doors, bumpers, etc) have damage codes in the 'Part Options' field which can help determine whether the part is in an acceptable condition for your needs.
These codes are standardized by the Automotive Recycler's Association and are always located at the beginning of the 'Part Options' field if these codes apply. Example ARA damage codes look like "0D1", "000" or "2P4" (wihout the quotes). Parts may have two seperate ARA codes prefixing the Options field. Each will generally refer to different damage types, with the first being the primary damage.
ARA damage codes are three characters long (e.g 2P4). The first number refers to where on the part the damage is located. This number refers to different sections depending on what type of part it is applied to. The second character refers to what type of damage the part has. These are defined in the table below. The third character indicates what degree of damage the part has. This can be slightly confusing because each number represents 1 credit card size worth of damage (or less). So, if the code was 0D1, the part would have a dent (or dents) that represent an area equal to or less than a credit card. If the code was 0D2, it would mean the dent(s) are about 2 credit cards in size.
In practice, most parts that we have in stock with ARA damage codes are still good enough quality to be sold and installed on your vehicle. We don't inventory parts that have too much damage, so these codes are reflecting managable damage for our customers.
If a part has no damage, it has a damage code of 000 (zero-zero-zero).
In the following table you can find definitions for the ARA Damage Types (the second character in the code):

Ford Axle Codes
Ford Axle codes can be found on the sticker in the driver's door jam under the heading "Axle". When looking up the code for your vehicle, note that some codes have multiple entries. Choose the one that matches the Model of your vehicle.
We've attempted to ensure the completeness and accuracy of the following codes. If you notice anything that needs fixed, please let I.T. know.
If the following codes are not helping, anoter method of checking your ratio is explained in the Application Dropdown Notes section above under Gear Ratios.

AC
Has Air Conditioning

We do not accept scrap with hydraulic fluids, gear oils, grease, etc UNLESS it has been drained properly.NOTE: Hydraulic equipment must be drained of fluid, all hoses removed and any hydraulic cylinders cut open before we can accept it.
Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs)
PCBs were primarily used as coolants or lubricants in electronic components such as transformers, capacitors, or electric motors. PCB production was banned in the United States un 1979, but remains present in other materials such as paints, printing inks, clothing dyes, and petroleum based lubricants as a byproduct of their manufacture. We do not accept any scrap containing PCBs.NOTE: Versions of these products which do not contain PCBs are acceptable as scrap.
Sodium Azide
Sodium Azide is a solid, similar to salt or a gas. It is most commonly used in airbags, whereby igniting sodium azide produces the nitrogen gas that fills the airbag. Sodium Azide is an extremely deadly poison, which can kill from contact or inhalation even with small amounts. Sodium Azide can also explode when it comes into contact with certain chemicals and metals. We do not accept airbags or other scrap that contains sodium azide.
Paint Containers
Paint may contain many hazardous materials, such as PCBs or lead. Because of this, we do not accept paint cans or paint containers.
Mercury
Flourescent, neon, high intensity, metal halide, mercury vapor Lights or other fixtures contain mercury in either metallic or gas form. We cannot accept any scrap that still contains these gasses.
Military Scrap
We can only accept military scrap directly from the military.
Explosive Scrap
We cannot accept explosives or any scrap with explosive residue. This also applies to inert or dud explosives. This DOES NOT apply to empty brass shell casings.
Radioactive Materials
We cannot accept any scrap that has been exposed to radiation or contains nuclear or radioactive materials.
Non-Metallic Scrap
We cannot accept tires, wood, dirt, yard debris, concrete/asphalt, glass, rubber or other non-metallic materials.
Air Conditioning Compressors
These must be drained and cut in half for inspection.
Drums, Barrels and Other Containers
These must be open for inspection.
Gas Cylinders
Includes scrap like air bottles, shock absorbers, or propane tanks. These must be drained and be cut in half for inspection.
Aerosol Cans
These must be drained and cut in half for inspection.
Clean Metals
Clean metals mean scrap that only contains the material it's being bought as. Clean scrap contains no foreign metals, fluids or other materials attached to or inside the scrap. Generally, the cleaner your metals are, the higher of a price we will pay.
If you have any questions regarding sorting, please call us at 541-963-6744 or email us.
Examples of clean metals are shown below
Dirty Metals
Dirty metals mean scrap that contains material other than what it's being bought as. Dirty scrap can mean a mix of metals (e.g. brass plumbing fittings with copper piping attached), or scrap that has other contaminants in it (e.g. dirt, leaves or other non-metallic materials). Generally, the dirtier your metals are, the lower of a price we will pay.
If you have any questions regarding sorting, please give a call at 541-963-6744 or email us.
Examples of dirty metals are shown below
Sorting Metals
Sorting your metals before bringing them in to us is an important step to ensure that you get the most money for your scrap.
It is important to first seperate your scrap into different bins for each type of scrap you have. Next, it is important that you further seperate each type of scrap into clean and dirty bins.
Refer to the section on clean vs. dirty metals for more information on those designations.
When you bring your scrap to us, we will generally stick to the sorting that you've done. If a bin contains dirty material even though it's supposed to be clean material, this may downgrade the price for that entire bin.
It is ultimately your responsiblity to ensure that scrap is sorted accurately.
Examples of well sorted scrap are shown in the image below as well as in the Clean vs. Dirty information section.
If you have any questions regarding sorting, call us at 541-963-6744 or email us.
We have different procedures for ferrous (iron, tin, appliances, etc) and non-ferrous (copper, brass, stainless, etc) scrap.

About Us
B&K Auto Salvage was started in 1973 by Bill and Ken Goss, which is why it's called B and K. At that time, B&K offered u-pull-it used parts and auto salvage services. In 2003, one of their employees, Jake Hanson purchased the business with his father, Delmer. Jake had worked at the yard through high school years and saw the opportunity to continue doing what he loved - working on cars and helping customers and at the same time continue to provide quality local employment with a local benifit and impact.
In 2013, B&K expanded to offer scrap metal and non-ferrous recycling to Eastern Oregon. The company was able to leverage it's existing partnerships with larger companies that process both Auto Salvage and Metal Recycling so B&K could offer the full range of metal recycling services to both residential and commercial customers. In 2016, B&K expanded from the La Grande location and added a Baker City location that also provides the full range of scrap recycling services to Baker County residents.
B&K currently employs 22 people and provides nationwide used parts sales from our inventory of over 1000 vehicles and nearly 150,000 parts.
At our La Grande location, we provide full u-pull-it services with access to our complete used parts inventory, and occasionally sell used vehicles that we purchase from dealerships.
At both La Grande and Baker City locations, we purchase used vehicles (complete or stripped, with title only) and offer the complete range of scrap metal and non-ferrous recycling to residential and commercial customers. This includes pickup and delivery of scrap metal bins for recycling (please conctact us for limitations), as well as local drop off and payment for your scrap metal or non-ferrous materials.
Please review the Metal Recycling page to see more details on what type of scrap we accept and additional restrictions and information you should know.
We have many different sizes of excavators which have magnets or material grapples. These excavators can be transported to and load material at your job site.
Trucks & Trailers
We have a large selection of Trucks and Trailers to do any job! We have large End Dump Trailers, Flatbeds, 60 Ton Lowboy, Hard side scrap trailers, Roll-off trucks with various sizes of bins from 15 yard to 40 yard bins, and Flatbed trucks with Moffet Forklifts, and Flatbed (Rollback) tow trucks.
